Buffalo Reshirts Launched!

Welcome to the newest branch of Buffalo T-shirts. We're calling it Buffalo Reshirts. Fashioned after our friend over at Teecycle.org, we're literally giving the shirts off our backs to help those in need. These are recycled, previously loved BUFFALO THEMED t-shirts that we've pulled from the brink of the Niagara Falls landfill. That means the hard work of breakin' 'em is all done for you! For sale are individual t-shirts that we find throughout the city and offer up for $10 bucks a piece (with free shipping). 100% of all profit from the sale of these recycled t-shirts goes to Friends of the Night People of Buffalo, NY. Their mission is to heighten public understanding of homelessness and poverty issues...to provide basic and essential support services. So get a piece of Buffalo history and heritage while making a contribution to help those in our city get back on their feet. Feels good all around, doesn't it?

Heres a few of our initial offerings:

They all come with the Buffalo T-shirts front bottom hem label. Not digging these, check back as we'll be adding more soon. Want something more universal? Hook up with our buddy Tim at Teecycle and be good to our waters.

New "Irish-inspired" Design

Just in time for the big St. Pat celebrations we're coming out with a couple new t-shirt designs. The first is the winner of our voting booth. This design captured 51% of the vote. Modeled after the first tavern in Buffalo, NY, Palmer's Inn Canalside Pub, this t-shirt is sure to inspire. Of course we've taken creative liberty with this one, although there are a few truths:
1) Palmer's Inn was arguably the first bar in Buffalo, established around 1798.
2) Proprietor John Palmer was one of 3 or 4 people on the Buffalo tax rolls of 1800.
2) You most likely could've gotten drunk for a penny back then.
3) Depending on what piss you were drinking and from where, there's a chance you'd find yourself dead purchasing a couple pennies worth.
Other than that, we made up the logo, most of the name and added the tag from some old historical accounts. "Drunk for a penny. Dead drunk for two." Who knows, maybe we'll actually open this puppy up as a real establishment some day now that the waterfront is making some progress...
Head over to the Buffalo T-shirts website and pre-order this shirt at $16.99 ($5 off regular online price) until March 2. Shirts ship out March 4th. FREE SHIPPING TO BOOT!

Where have I been all my life?

"Oh, yeah, I have a blog." Its been a long while since I last posted and here why: we bought a house! And, news to me, its a hell of alot of work to get it in sea-worthy shape. Painting, replacing light fixtures, painting and painting.
Needless to say, this here blog wasnt a priority for a spell there.
On top of that, I've been crazy busy with design work. Crazy busy. I completed logo/packaging for a hockey equipment repair kit (should get a call today from the printer to pick it up!), and jammed out the 2009 Buffalo First Coupon Book (design/mechanical) the past week and a half. Above is the cover illustration/design I did for it. Plus some web design and logo design thrown in for good measure.
So...what about the shirts?
The shirts. The poor, poor shirts. Im swinging down to City Love clothing next week in hope of striking up a deal to get my shirts in their retail store AND Im ordering the blanks for the new design too. Hope to have them in by the first of the year.
Thanks for being a patient. Ill post more soon.

Buffalo NY run/walk/bike maps

Found this interesting site online called Map My Run. It has a bunch of routes mapped out for runs, walks, bike rides-take a look, pick your route and enjoy the city. Plus you can take a jaunt around the neighborhood and then add it to the list. Who knew walking from my house to the Globe Market was 2.1 miles? Or the Chapin and Bidwell loops were 2.5. I sure didnt.

Screen Printer Update and BfloTees Stickers

I completely forgot to post this. I meet with the printer yesterday and she's a top notch craftsman, er craftswoman...craftsperson? Whatever, she's cool. She does great work and actually opened up an account for American Apparel shirts just for us. Plus, she runs her business on Buffalo's East Side. Local business supporting local business, thats what Im aiming for. It might cost a wee bit more out of pocket for me, but the benefits of supporting local business completely outway the slight increase in costs. Check out Buffalo First for more info on the benefits of shopping local. She also plays ice hockey, which is currently my favorite sport to play myself. But I digress.
I hope to put 50% down this weekend so we can order the shirts and-holy crap-put ink on fabric and do this thing. Am I right?
So what's this about stickers, you ask? I have oval bumper stickers (thats them up top) and I might have a stack of them at the Allentown Art Festival. Amy Kedron of Buffalo First mentioned she MAY have a table down there with information on shopping local and offered a small corner of space to leave a stack of fliers. Well, I don't have fliers but I do have stickers. So, if you're down there this weekend and see the Buffalo First Banner, swing by it and pick up the first piece of BfloTees merch-the sticker. It'll be worth something someday. Something like 13 cents, which is about what their worth now.
I may also chalk up some web addresses on the sidewalk s and sling small fliers on car windows...why waste the opportunity.

Buffalo NY Art Director in Search of Projects

While this is my t-shirt blog I thought Id take this opportunity to show some of my advertising/design work I've completed. Why do that? Well, perhaps you know of a business that needs help promoting an upcoming event, or a friend that is launching a new idea and needs a logo, brochure or website. I'm an art director with a dozen or so years of experience currently consulting with businesses and advertising agencies based in Buffalo, NY, but looking to expand. Above are a few examples of my work. If you want to see more, head over to my portfolio page or email me here. The Au wine project won Best in Show (Design/Packaging) at the 2007 Los Angeles Wine & Spirit Competition. So I got that going for me, which is nice.
Thanks for looking.

Giving Serious Thought

Thinking about doing this right and talking to the SBA or SCORE and creating a business plan. It'll be a ton of work and headache but will give me focus and real goals to achieve.
Im having fun finding places to put my link online AND got my first reply to the mailing list, so theres at least one person out there looking forward to my opening besides me.
Also waiting to hear back from my screen print partner. She is looking into creating an American Apparel account which would consolidate some of the process, making it a little easier to order shirts (although probably more expensive). I still have to talk money with her. If this goes the way I hope, we'll both be benefitting from it and I'd like to have a partner willing to share the risk (at least partially at first) by discounting the shirts or printing.
Took another walk yesterday down by the marina and Naval Park-great progress being seen down there and I couldnt believe my eyes: A BOARDWALK IN BUFFALO! Got pics to upload of it.
Spent some time browsing the history of Buffalo and found 2 or 3 interesting facts that will make great shirts! Stay tuned!

Embroidered tags for shirts

I found someone to do some sample embroidered tags for me. Unfortunately, since Im new at this and not very bright, i shoulve looked into exactly what I needed. I got the samples and they look okay. I mean, the buffalo looks good, but the material is a ribbon type of stuff which frankly isnt strong enough to hold thru multiple washes...and a few of the ribbons were really bunched up around the embroidery. Oh, well. the lady was fantastic-very nice, quick turnaround...AND, isnt charging me for the effort...even better. If I ever need embroidery work, she'll be the first I call.
So, what am I looking for then? Im glad you asked. Essentially Im looking for a stitched label. Not something I can get in Buffalo, so Im ordering overseas-yep-mainland china here I come. But for 1200 labels for 200 smackers, its a deal I wont need to make for awhile. Perhaps by that time Ill find someone in buffalo to produce the labels. Check them out if your in need: Lucky Label
If anyone knows of a place, Im all ears!
What else...
Im still searching for a reliable, efficient, quality screen printer in Buffalo, NY to screen my shirts. Fingers crossed, this isnt a major hurdle I have to get over. I also have to make a decision on artwork and color of shirts. I have a dozen designs ready, but only introducing 3 to start....
And oh, yeah, money is running out.
I have pictures to post too. Sorry Im in a rush.

Random Buffalo NY Images from Camera

Last Summer (2007), Frank was in the West Side Rowing Club's Kid Camp where he learned to row. Thats him, third from bottom in the blue hat (is that the 3rd seat or 6th I don't know)

Heres another shot from rowing.

Heres Frank getting on the ice at Buff State, Jan 2008. Ive recently got back into hockey myself and thought it would be fun if Frank gave it a go. Hopefully next year well be doing skate n shoots together!

Abe patiently waiting.Shot in Summer 2007 at the Buffalo Historical Society.
