Irish Shenanigans and Hullabaloo T-shirt

Our new t-shirt design is inspired by the best outdoor party in Buffalo-the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Im more apt to hit the Old First Ward rather than risk getting in no holds barred fist-a-cuffs on D street, but if your game and a risk-taker, have at it.

New "Irish-inspired" Design

Just in time for the big St. Pat celebrations we're coming out with a couple new t-shirt designs. The first is the winner of our voting booth. This design captured 51% of the vote. Modeled after the first tavern in Buffalo, NY, Palmer's Inn Canalside Pub, this t-shirt is sure to inspire. Of course we've taken creative liberty with this one, although there are a few truths:

1) Palmer's Inn was arguably the first bar in Buffalo, established around 1798.

2) Proprietor John Palmer was one of 3 or 4 people on the Buffalo tax rolls of 1800.

2) You most likely could've gotten drunk for a penny back then.

3) Depending on what piss you were drinking and from where, there's a chance you'd find yourself dead purchasing a couple pennies worth.

Other than that, we made up the logo, most of the name and added the tag from some old historical accounts. "Drunk for a penny. Dead drunk for two." Who knows, maybe we'll actually open this puppy up as a real establishment some day now that the waterfront is making some progress...

Where have I been all my life?

"Oh, yeah, I have a blog." Its been a long while since I last posted and here why: we bought a house! And, news to me, its a hell of alot of work to get it in sea-worthy shape. Painting, replacing light fixtures, painting and painting.
Needless to say, this here blog wasnt a priority for a spell there.
On top of that, I've been crazy busy with design work. Crazy busy. I completed logo/packaging for a hockey equipment repair kit (should get a call today from the printer to pick it up!), and jammed out the 2009 Buffalo First Coupon Book (design/mechanical) the past week and a half. Above is the cover illustration/design I did for it. Plus some web design and logo design thrown in for good measure.
So...what about the shirts?
The shirts. The poor, poor shirts. Im swinging down to City Love clothing next week in hope of striking up a deal to get my shirts in their retail store AND Im ordering the blanks for the new design too. Hope to have them in by the first of the year.

Keep Searching for "Buffalo T-shirts"

Image by Getty Images via DaylifeThe past week or two, Ive noticed an increase in the amount of visitors to my site and was wondering to myself, "have I been pressing the right buttons out there that people are now responding to my marketing?" The short answer is, maybe.

The truer answer is: Probably not. So what is it?

The past few weeks as we creep closer to the Presidential Election, Ralph Nader has been spending money getting his name out to the public. One of his marketing ploys is the selling of t-shirts -- more specifically his "Buffalo T-shirts". Its an alright t-shirt: A standing Buffalo decked out in the colors of the flag with a dusting of stars. Apparently they're selling like hotcakes too. In turn, people are looking for them and most likely turning to google and yahoo to perform searches. They type in "Nader Buffalo T-shirt" and more often then not they come across one of my social networking entries/posts/profiles and - click - they stumble onto my site.
Now how to leverage this into sales is the question. Create a "Nader Buffalo T-shirt" of my own? Nah, not interested in doing that. Any ideas out there?

A metaphor for the future of Buffalo, NY?

Is the Rocketship 7 tee from Buffalo T-shirts a metaphor for Buffalo's future? If you say so.
Actually, the idea for this shirt was formed from a childhood memory. My dad had our sailboat docked at the Marina and occasionally we'd slip up to the observation tower to fill up the gas tank prior to heading out. I always thought growing up that the tower looked like a crude spacecraft. Think Men in Black and the Worlds Fair Towers in Queens. Thats what Im talking about.
But some say its a metaphor. So, okay its a metaphor. A graphic t-shirt symbolic of Buffalo's upward swing.

Buffalo T-shirts: First Week in the Books.

The first week was a whirlwind. I didnt get much sleep as I worked on minor tweaks to the site and getting the site listed on PleaseDressMe and Teenormous, two of the bigger T-shirt search engines on the web. Great people at both places: patient, knowledgeable and all very helpful. Thanks to both!
I also updated my Google Analytics to point to my new site so I can track visitors and what not. I created a sitemap through Google as well to help my listings in search engines and finally, I researched keywords to hone my tags and html text a little bit to see if I can get in the top 3 for "Buffalo T-shirts". I may need to scale back on the number of times I use my name on pages. Overkill can be seen as spam to the googlebots (er, whatever they're called). Its a learning process.
The other thing Im wondering, and this will be interesting to find out, is this: Whats more appealing:
a) Free shipping
b) 20% off entire purchase, or
c) $5.00 off per shirt
Im leaning towards 20% off sounding much better. That'll probably be next months special for newsletter readers.
Speaking of newsletters...I need some ideas for that. Im thinking of doing a couple lists like Top 5 wineries in the Niagara region, Top 5 pizza joints (Campiero's, 888 Main St, I can't stress it enough!) in Buffalo, maybe hint on new releases, and add tips on increasing web traffic. Who knows. There might be some opportunities for business to swap links on it too.
I need a nap!

Buffalo T-shirts Launched

We are officially open at Buffalo T-shirts!
The long awaited day has finally arrived. I uploaded the site this morning around 1am and so far, there hasnt, to my knowledge, been any hitches. Now the fun begins: the marketing. Getting people to the site-driving traffic.
Online plans consist of social networking on MySpace, Facebook, MyBuffalo and Twitter. Ill publish some Squidoo lenses (one for each shirt and one for the site itself), upload images and descriptions to a few of the t-shirt search engines and continue to market our wares to expats throughout the country.
Any suggestions out there would be appreciated.

Favorite Places and Things to do in Buffalo, NY: Fall

As our long, sunny summer concludes I was hoping to compile a list of things people like to do and places Buffalonians enjoy visiting during our Fall season here on the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Maybe a top ten of sorts. People often think we have two seasons in Buffalo: winter and winter. But for me autumn in Buffalo is one of the best of the 4, not just because the fall foliage turns a spectrum of colors or because every other Sunday you can tailgate at one of the best parks in the NFL either. It could be a simple thing like a hike through Chestnut Ridge Park to light the 'eternal' flame, or enjoying a Sabres game at JJ's (Casa Di Pizza on Elmwood Ave), or running the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot. There's much to do in Buffalo during the summer months and I bet if we put our heads together, just as much to do and enjoy in the fall.

Buffalo T-shirts Gone to Print!

Big news from the Buffalo T-shirts office: I dropped off the blank shirts and the artwork to the screenprinter this morning. We are officially less than 2 weeks away from having printed shirts!
In these next two weeks I plan on finalizing the website and getting the paypal system up and running so that when shirts come in, I can get them online and offer them up to the retail heavens.
